History

The Alberta Low Impact Development Partnership (ALIDP) was created in the fall of 2004 in response to the need to protect and maintain the integrity of the natural environment while promoting the growth, prosperity and quality of life in Alberta’s communities.

A 2006 Low Impact Development conference held in Cochrane, Alberta, attracted more than 170 people and had exceptional feedback. By popular demand and request from stakeholders in central and northern Alberta, another conference was held in Edmonton in 2007. The formal creation of the Alberta Low Impact Development Partnership Society occurred at this meeting, and the seven-member Board of Directors was elected.  In August 2008, the ALIDP hired its first part-time coordinator.

Composition

The ALIDP has a diverse base including municipal and provincial government, watershed stewardship groups, universities, corporations, and individuals with an interest in promoting low impact development practices. We currently have more than 90 stakeholders and a growing membership.

What We Do

The ALIDP focuses on education and outreach to enable government and stakeholders to develop and implement low impact development initiatives.

As a knowledge and research network, the Partnership encourages resource sharing and research collaboration, including demonstration projects.  This ensures individual stakeholders can achieve maximum benefits from LID tools suitable for Alberta conditions.
