From Awareness to Action: Leading the Way to Improved Urban Stormwater and Riparian Management

AWARENESS: Request this 1/2-day WORKSHOP

Partnering with the Alberta Riparian Habitat Management Society (also known as 'Cows & Fish'), we have designed a workshop to help realtors, builders, green practitioners, community leaders, and decision-makers make the connection between stormwater management, riparian management, and the health of our water bodies. This workshop showcases products, techniques, practices and features which can restore the functionality of the urban landscape. The workshop touches on the economic value, the ecologic value, and the logistical and legal aspects of elements like rainwater harvesting systems, green roofs, non-turf-based landscapes, appropriate management of riparian areas, etc. We familiarize workshop participants with community-scale features such as stormwater reuse systems for irrigation, bioswales, suspended pavements, soil bioengineering techniques, riparian setback tools, etc. We foster a discussion through a short exercise that puts participants in the design chair for a real multi-family residential redevelopment project. Request this 1/2 day AWARENESS WORKSHOP for your community by contacting Leta van Duin or Kristina Wantola.
